CANOWINDRA will host next year’s 18th Australian National Balloon Championships.
The town has long been associated with hot-air ballooning and known popularly as the Balloon Capital of Australia, say organising balloonists Jan and Graham Kerr, and Canowindra Challenge Inc chairman Arthur Falconer.
Canowindra first hosted the Australian National Balloon Championships in 1988 and, in recent years, has seen the ballooning community coming back to the town’s lush and picturesque valleys.
After successfully holding the 17th Australian National Balloon Championships in 2011 and a smaller local competition in 2012, Canowindra successfully held off the competition in the bid to host the championships in 2013.
With the experience gained over recent years and the support of international directors, the organisers say they offer the best competitive ballooning event in Australia.
The level of competition in the environment widely regarded as providing the premier flying conditions, Canowindra is assured of attracting the best of Australian balloonists, the organisers say.
The nationals will be held from the April 20 to 27.
