Driver 10 times over PCA limit – police
A DRINK-DRIVER tested near Newcastle has registered a blood-alcohol level almost 10 times the legal limit, police say.
Members of the public reported the 41-year-old appeared intoxicated when he allegedly stumbled into the driver’s seat of a Holden Barina in Cardiff, near Newcastle, about 6:30pm yesterday (Tuesday).
They contacted police who located the vehicle a short time later and submitted him to a breath test.
The driver returned a reading of 0.481, which is nearly 10 times the legal limit of .05, police say.
Officers took him to Cardiff Police Station where he returned a reading of 0.335.
Police say they later discovered the man’s driver’s licence had been suspended the previous week for high-range drink driving.
He was charged yesterday with driving while suspended and a second offence of high-range drink driving and is expected to appear in Belmont Local Court in August. |
