Young girl dies, mother injured
after vehicle crashes into tree
AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD girl is dead and her mother left seriously injured after a Toyota Rav4 left the Lachlan Valley Way and crashed into a tree about 5km north of Cowra.
Police say the vehicle failed to negotiate a left-hand bend, spun out of control and mounted the grass verge before crashing into the tree about 12-noon yesterday (Saturday).
The 32-year-old mother, the vehicle’s driver, and her daughter were trapped inside the vehicle.
They were freed by rescue personnel and taken by ambulance to Orange Base Hospital where the young girl died, police say.
Her mother remains in hospital in a stable condition receiving treatment for a fractured clavicle, scapula and chest injuries.
Officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit attended and examined the crash site (above right).
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing and the Toyota has been seized for mechanical examination.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner. |
