Little Athletics Regional Championships 2013
On February 16 and 17 eight of Cowra’s Little Athletics members travelled to Dubbo to compete at Barden Park in the Region 3 Championships. Competing in very warm conditions, our local athletes can be very proud of themselves with some excellent results. This year four athletes, Natalie Banks, Zane Craig, Tayla Garratt and John Terry will representing Cowra at the State Championships which will be held in Homebush on the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th March after coming in the top two in their events. Tayla Garratt won three gold medals coming 1st in the Discus, Shot Put and Javelin. John Terry won a gold and bronze medal coming 1st in the High jump and 3rd in the Javelin. Zane Craig won two silver medals coming 2nd in the Shot put and Discus. Natalie Banks won a silver medal coming 2nd in the 1100m walk. Mikelli Garratt won a bronze medal coming 3rd in the Discus and will have to wait for results from the other regions to see if she has qualified for the State Championships, as they take the next best eight results from the other seven regions. Fingers crossed Mikelli. Special mention must go to Zane Craig after only having knee surgery a couple of months ago to gain two silver medals with very limited movement was a very courageous effort.
