Regional Student (Youth) Art Exhibition and Awards

Cowra Regional Art Gallery Saturday 28 November 2009.

OVER 130 high school students in years 10, 11 and 12 from across the central west region have entered works into the 2009 Regional Student (Youth) Art Exhibition and Awards. This is the sixth year the Cowra Regional Art Gallery has presented this popular showcase of works by young artists in a variety of media including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, digital media, collage, textiles and ceramics. It is also a unique opportunity for the participating students to have their work presented in a regional public gallery.

Eleven high schools have been involved in the planning of this years exhibition, they are Blayney High School; Boorowa Central School; Condobolin High School; Cowra High School; Forbes High School; Hennessy Catholic College; Henry Lawson High School; Molong Central School; Orange High School; Parkes High School; and St. Raphael’s Central School, Cowra.

The Gallery has received Awards sponsorship support from Country Energy (Country Energy Award), Cowra Concrete Constructions, Webster Optometrists and the Land; Awards donations support from Cowra Rotary Club, The Cowra Arts Council, The Friends of the Gallery (People’s Choice Award) and a private donor; in kind support from Another Eagle Sign towards the exhibition presentation and Cowra Eagle Boy’s Pizza towards the opening of the exhibition.

The Judge for the 2009 Awards is local Sculptor Ken Hutchinson, recently selected for this years Sculpture by the Sea exhibition.

The exhibition opening and presentation of the Awards is from 2pm Saturday 28 November 2009. Special guest speaker to open the exhibition is Dr Peter Wilson Senior Lecturer and Director of Creative Arts, Charles Sturt University, Bathurst. Admission to the opening is free and light refreshments will be available.
