Forbes renal dialysis unit
gets $360,000 fund boost
FORBES Health Service’s renal dialysis unit is set to get a $360,000 funding boost, allowing another four patients to receive treatment.
The State funding will also enable the unit to increase chair capacity from four to six, says the Greater Western Area Health Service (GWAHS). The service’s chief executive, Danny O’Connor, says the boost will mean a great deal for renal dialysis patients in the Forbes area.
“This welcome funding will help Greater Western to meet increasing demand in the Forbes catchment area for people requiring haemodialysis and will enable more residents to be treated closer to home,” he says.
“Renal dialysis is a life-saving treatment for people with end-stage kidney failure and being able to receive timely treatment in familiar and comfortable surroundings is important for patients.” Also benefiting from the New South Wales Government enhancement funding of $1 million over the next two years for renal dialysis services will be patients requiring home dialysis training. Funding for the Dubbo Health Service home training unit will assist with accommodation and allow for up to 10 patients per year to be trained for home haemodialysis and 20 patients per year to be trained in peritoneal dialysis.
Capital funding of $300,000 for the Gilgandra Health Service to prepare for future dialysis growth over the next 12 to 18 months and capital funding of $18,000 for the provision of a facility based self-care space at Bourke Health Service will also assist to provide for increasing demand in renal dialysis |
