Woman’s death takes
State road toll to 47
A WOMAN is dead after her vehicle left the road and crashed into a tree at Gulgong last night (Monday), taking the State road toll this year to 47. About 7.30pm the 44-year-old woman was driving a Ford sedan south along Cope Rd, police say. Approximately 1km from Gulgong it appears the vehicle veered right on to the incorrect side of the roadway and smashed into a large tree. Police say the force of the impact was severe and caused the sedan to end up on its driver’s side about 30m from the tree. The female driver and sole occupant, from Cope, died at the scene. Police from Mudgee Local Area Command and other emergency services attended the scene. They examined the site for several hours and will include all their findings in a report for the Coroner. Anyone who saw the car in the lead up to the crash is urged to contact investigators via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. The State road toll as of yesterday (Monday) now stands at 47 – 19 more than this time last year. |
