Dad killed, son survives motorbike crash
A YOUNG boy has survived a motorbike accident that killed his father northwest of Sydney.
The pair was riding along Putty Rd in Mellong, north of Colo Heights, when they crashed about 10:30am yesterday (Sunday).
The father, aged in his mid-30s, died at the scene while his son, 12, was taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead with serious hip and leg injuries.
Last night he was in a serious but stable condition.
The pair as at the front of a group of motorcyclists out for a morning ride when they crashed.
Putty Rd was closed for several hours as an investigation into the cause got underway.
There have been several fatal crashes on Putty Rd at Mellong in recent years, including in November 2011 when two motorcyclists died after hitting a utility.
Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
Meanwhile, a second motorcyclist has suffered severe head injuries when his machine left the Pacific Highway and crashed into a tree at Cowan in Sydney’s north about 10:50am yesterday.
The 24-year-old man was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital where he is in an induced coma. |
