15 firearms stolen – police
FIFTEEN firearms have been stolen from Mudgee and Tambar Springs over the weekend, police say.
About 8am on Saturday, a 30-year-old man placed his Sportco .22 rifle with 400 rounds of ammunition on the front seat of a Toyota Landcruiser parked outside his home in Mudgee.
The man told police he was preparing to go hunting and left the vehicle briefly to go back inside his unit.
When he returned to the Landcruiser his rifle, ammunition and wallet had been stolen.
In a separate incident, the absentee owner of a remote cattle farm on Mitchell Park Rd at Tambar Springs, west of Coonabarabran, returned to his property on Saturday to find a back window had been smashed.
The owner, aged 56, went inside the home and discovered his gun safe – containing 14 firearms – had been stolen.
Both men are licensed and registered firearms owners, police say.
Officers are appealing for anyone with information about the thefts, or whereabouts of the missing firearms, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
