Movie Double for Cowra
The Artist & My Week with Marilyn to screen at Civic Centre
THE award winning movies The Artist and My Week with Marilyn will be screening on a double bill in the upstairs theatrette at the Cowra Civic Centre on Sunday 10 June. The Artist is one of the most acclaimed films of the year winning five Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actor – Jean Dujardin and Best Director - Michel Hazanavicius. It is the first silent film to take out the Oscar for Best Picture in 83 years. On the same bill is My Week with Marilyn, the tale of a turbulent week in the life of Marilyn Monroe during the making of the film The Prince and the Showgirl in 1957. Starring Michelle Williams, Eddie Redmayne and Kenneth Branagh My Week with Marilyn was nominated for multiple Academy and Golden Globe Awards.
The Cowra Musical and Dramatic Society Inc. (M&D) is delighted to be able to bring these cinematic gems to Cowra. Since the closure of the Savoy Cinema M&D members, along with many other Cowra locals have had no alternative than to make the 200 kilometre round trip to either Bathurst or Orange for regular movie screenings. The Cowra Youth Council, Cowra Breakout Association and M&D have all staged successful movie nights at the Civic Centre since the Savoy closure but this is the first time that a double billing has been screened and only the second time that movies have been shown prior to their DVD release.
Jenny Friend, President of the M&D is very excited about the 10 June screenings. Jenny said, “The Artist and My Week with Marilyn are two of the best movies released in the last 12 month. They both feature theatrical subjects that make them ideal for screening by the local dramatic society. I am absolutely delighted that the M&D has a chance to present them to the Cowra community and hope that locals will get behind the event.” The M&D sees the screenings as a chance for locals to show their continuing support for the establishment of a Cowra community cinema.
Ticket prices for the double feature movie screening are just $25 for adults and $20 concession and include a light supper of soup and a roll plus complimentary tea and coffee served between the movies. The Artist will screen first at 4.30pm followed by My Week with Marilyn. Cool drinks, freshly made popcorn and a selection of confectionaries will be available for purchase. Tickets are not available for individual movies.
Seating in the Civic Centre theatrette is limited to just 80 patrons and with demand certain to be high it’s essential that tickets are pre-booked. Bookings and any enquiries concerning The Artist and My Week with Marilyn can be made at Browse Awhile Bookshop in Kendal Street – Phone 6342 4099 or 6341 3337 after hours.
