170 guns seized from firearms dealer
A PARKES gun dealer has been stripped of 170 firearms because of unsafe storage practices in his shop.
Police seized the 160 long-arm weapons, 10 handguns, a silencer and other items about 9:20am yesterday (Thursday) from the Renshaw McGirr Way business.
In May, Parkes licensing officers conducted an audit of the premises and allegedly detected numerous breaches relating to safe storage of firearms.
The New South Wales Firearms Registry decided not to renew the dealer’s licence and revoked his personal shooting licence.
Meanwhile, police allegedly found three rifles, a large amount of ammunition and almost 600g of cannabis when they stopped a vehicle at yesterday at Kendall, on the Mid-North Coast.
The 19-year-old male driver was charged with multiple weapons and drugs supply offences.
He was refused bail to appear in Port Macquarie Local Court today (Friday). |
