
Candidates’ seminar — how to nominate
A seminar for anyone considering nominating for the Local Government elections in September is being held in Cowra.
The seminar, on Tuesday July 3, will provide information on who can be a candidate and how to nominate; campaigning and election advertising; “how-to-vote” material; the public scrutiny of candidates; and funding and disclosure obligations.

Candidates’ seminar — being a councillor
A seminar on the responsibilities of being a councillor in Local Government is being organised by Cowra Shire Council.
The seminar, to be run by Local Government Learning Solutions, is on Thursday July 12 from 6–9pm at Cowra Council Chambers.
This candidate information seminar will cover: the key requirements for becoming a councillor; code of conduct and conflict of interest issues; key expectations and potential challenges; and the role of a Councillor in our governmental system.

Road Closure – Friday July 6
Residents are advised that, as part of NAIDOC week celebrations, a public march will be held in Kendal Street, commencing at Squire Park. For this march, Kendal Street, from Brisbane Street through to Edgell Park (over the bridge) will be closed from 10.30–11.00am on Friday 6 July. drumMUSTER
The next drumMUSTER will be held on Monday July 2 2012. drumMUSTER is a program for the collection and recycling of cleaned eligible non- returnable crop production and on-farm animal health chemical containers. Bookings are essential and can be made with the Materials Recycling Facility on 6340 2140.
Closure of Ina Drive
From Thursday June 21 until Sunday June 24 there will be a road closure for Ina Drive from Liverpool Lane and Carleton St due to asbestos removal work from the Life Skills/old day care centre on Ina Drive.
Access to the Emergency section of Cowra Hospital will be available during this time. Cowra Council apologises for any inconvenience that this necessary work may cause.
Railway Lane and Brisbane St road closures
From mid-June for a period of six months, Railway Lane and Brisbane Street will be partly-closed for the construction of new offices.
Railway Lane will have half the road closed from Brisbane Street to the Senior Citizens Centre, and “No Parking” will also be in place on the northern side of the street.
Those affected by these road closures will include Cowra Public School, and businesses in Railway Lane and Brisbane Street. Cowra Council apologises for the inconvenience that that these closures will incur.
Road Work on Forbes Road and Gooloogong Village
Council is undertaking widening and strengthening of the road shoulders on Forbes Road, 30–35km from Cowra through Gooloogong village. Work is expected to finish in mid-July. Council will be carrying out this work under contract for the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS). Temporary delays will occur at various times, depending on the progress of the works.
