Elderly man dies after being hit by 4WD
AN ELDERLY man has died after he was struck by a 4WD while crossing a road today (Friday) at Candelo, on the Far-South Coast.
About 12:15pm (Friday 22 June 2012), police and other emergency services were called to the Candelo-Bega Road following reports of a collision.
Police say it’s believed a 4WD drive was travelling west on Candelo-Bega Rd when it hit the man about 12:15pm.
The man, whose age has not been released, died at the scene.
The 4WD driver, a man aged in his 20s, was not injured and has been taken to Bega Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.
A crime scene has been established and specialist forensic officers are en route to the scene.
Motorists are advised Candelo-Bega Rd remains closed between Wyndham and Kamaruka Lanes.
The road is expected to remain closed for several hours and motorists are warned to expect delays, avoid the area and consider alternate routes.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner. |
